1st place - "Red Dao Face"

"Red Dao Face", Oil on canvas, 40" x 30", Available

Hi Friends. I'm reposting "Red Dao Face" (which you may have seen before) to share some good news with you. At the March meeting of the Los Gatos Art Association, this painting was awarded 1st place in the peer judging contest. The judges were the 40 or so association members who were present at the meeting. To them, I say 'thank you'!

About "Red Dao Face": I was so taken with the face of the woman in "Shopping" that I painted "Red Dao Face" right afterwards. To keep it loose, I mostly used a palette knife as my painting tool. You can click on the painting to make it larger and see the texture.

This work is my largest yet - 40" high by 30" wide - which makes it HUGE for a painting of a face. Now we just need to find a spot on our wall (a big one) to hang it on!

Which do you like better - "Shopping" or "Red Dao Face"? All comments are welcome.

Wow! I bet the size makes it extra impressive. I especially like the expression and color harmonies.

Here's a comment I received by email from my friend Elizabeth M:

I think they are both beautiful and so luscious in your paint colors and richness of combining them however I especially love Shopping

That is a big head. Nicely done. It is hard to do them large.

Congratulations, Holly. No surprise about this painting being voted for the first place. It's a wonderful piece (and even more impressive face to face).

Hard to choose between this one and "Shopping". They tell very different stories, which makes it tough to compare. Hmm, that wasn't much help, was it?

Congratulations!!
It's always gratifying to receive awards for our work .... even more so when it's from peers.... Well deserved.
As to which..... I donno... I like them both!!

Hats off to you, Holly!

This painting is a mighty ambitious that's for sure. When they get that large, all sorts of new issues appear that small work simply does not address. Great job!!
