1st place - "You Too I Welcome"

"You too I welcome", Oil on canvas, 24" x 30", Sold
One night at a painting critique meeting, fellow artist Belinda Lima showed us some wonderful paintings in her Guitar Series. I was awed and inspired by her gorgeous deep reds and yellows, and the next day got to work on this abstract landscape using similar colors.

It's titled "You too I welcome". This phrase is part of a poem by Walt Whitman that I etched into the deep red painting in the bottom left of the painting. The lines read, "You too I welcome, and fully, the same as the rest. You too I sing with joy."
At the February meeting of the Fine Arts League of Cupertino, this painting was awarded 1st place in the Artist of the Month contest. The judges were the 30-40 FALC members who were there at the meeting. To them, I say 'thank you'!

I like it. I think going between abstract and representational helps both.
