I received an email that totally made my day, and wanted to share the story with you . . .
A few months ago, a very nice man in Alabama read my blog and wanted to buy "Blue Moon" as a 12th anniversary gift for his wife. Only he wanted a bigger version of it to fit in a specific place in their living room. How romantic!
After a few emails back and forth, we agreed I would paint something similar (but not exactly the same), at almost twice the size, 30" x 40". I have always loved painting commissions and was honored by this request. I threw myself into the creative process, and had lots of fun using mixed media (acrylic, string, oil) to build up the design and texture over multiple layers.
When I was happy with the result, I mailed the painting to my new friend, and received this note from him, which totally made my day.
"I wanted to let you know the painting arrived and we both LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!
My wife was very surprised to receive it and has not stopped staring at it. The colors are perfect. She was also very proud to show it off to our guests. She has already suggested the idea of getting you to do something else for us.
Again, thank you so much for creating such a meaningful piece that will surely be handed down through our family for generations to come."
I was very honored by the receiving this commission, and by the note, and hope to be similarly honored in 2013 and beyond.
